I really did it this time

sunny 21 °C

On our way out to Palermo on Wednesday, our host Ignazio stopped us at the door. "Are you leaving today?" Of course not, I thought, until I did the math on the cost and how many nights we'd been there in my head. I'd moved up all the lodging dates a day when I made the reservations. We packed and headed to Mandranova. It'll work out fairly nicely anyway, since we'll be able to stay a night in Piazza Armerina, at the site of a second century Roman villa with famous mosaics, and about an hour closer to our flight home from Catania.

Meantime, my bragging about great planning has subsided a bit.

There is a wireless point at the Rome airport, so all of our photos should get uploaded during our layover there Sunday. Until then, ci parliamo.

I'm pleased in a way, Josh, that you made a mistake in your lodging arrangements, because now you and Colleen can see the villa at Piazza Armerina. Jack and I think it is one of the most spectacular sites we've ever seen in Italy, and that's saying something. I know you saw the mosaic floors in the church in Aquileia; I think the ones in Sicily are far better...if it's possible to compare them.
While you're in the Rome airport uploading your photos on Sunday, I'll be in Orvieto, meeting a Latin teacher friend from Massachusetts and her adult son. They're only in Italy for the weekend, so we'll have just a few hours together. They want to see the Etruscan tombs there, the ones you and also your family have visited.
I look forward to seeing your photos, and have a safe trip home.
